I hear voices everywhere (all around me and some in my own head)...so do you.
Prov 10:9 With his mouth the godless man would destroy his neighbor, but by knowledge the righteous are delivered.
Sometimes I am unsure whether I take certain passages of scripture out of context or not, but this verse made me think of the following:
Have you ever been slandered, falsely accused or just plain not liked by someone you would consider an enemy? Have you had a well-meaning friend tell you "what he or she thinks" about you that caused you unrest? Do you convince yourself of things that just "have to be true" because you think or feel that they "have to be true"?
What other people say (and what the voices in our own heads say) to us can really hurt...even destroy!
What will enable us to "love our neighbor as ourselves" (Mark 12:31)? What will combat the words of the godless mouth?...what we know.
Are you insecure, like me? Do you tend to get angry, like me? Do you just get defensive, like me?
The knowledge that delivers the righteous is the knowledge of the Gospel (the righteous being those in Christ...not that we are righteous in ourselves...1 Corinthians 1:30).
Ephesians 2: 13-16 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.
Jesus, HIMSELF, is our peace.
We belong to him. He is our identity, not what others say or think about us...not even what we think and feel about ourselves. The only truth we are to buy into is who He says He is, what He says about us and who that makes us in Him.
Be grounded in what is the truth!
John 8:32 "and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Jesus and the truth of who He is is the knowledge that will deliver you from the mouth of the godless...even the godless mouth in your own head. Seek to grow in your understanding of this knowledge!
Pray that..."according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God."
Ephesians 3:16-19
Because it is He and only He..."who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen."
Ephesians 3:20-21
